Well, it's coming to Canada next year.

I think its coming to Canada next year or year after...so hop up there and buy one and bring it down to the States.
I'd rather have a 1.6 liter Mini. :)

I'm in the states and saw one here a month or two back driving around, very ridiculous looking in comparison to the rest of the cars on the road... but i'm glad to see cars going in that direction honestly. I drive a decently fuel efficient compact myself.

frickin 82 horse power?! what's happens when you want to keep up with nyc cabbies?
- olli1010
The Smart Car as we know it will not be available in the US (trust me - i tried to buy one) - The problem has to do with the engine. It's underpowered and Mercedes doesn't want to compete with its exsiting CLK/SLK roadsters + Chrysler models.
Instead, they are launching a new model for the US only.
It's a shame, but what can you do.
Anybody also hear the rumour that Michael Jackson owns like 10 and drives them around his neverland ranch?

it's not efficient for Cheney's wallet.
fukking usa.
anyway, about keeping up with gasoline guzzling cabbies, try it.. the smart's acceleration from zero will be a quite a surprise for ya young lad!

i drove one in france, they are awesome. US model will only be larger 4x4 for all you gas fanatics. I would rather see the small one here in large cities.

why do you think it's called the SMART car?
The SMART is 'smart' because it's the alternative to those uselessly oversized vehicules that crowd our roads.
Cars these days are too big. Just far far too big. Excessive... in response to all this, go SMART
and FU H2problem with the states is that compact and fuel efficiency doesn't sell. i hope that ideal dies with the baby boomers. the us and canada for that matter can learn a lot from europeans in terms of car efficiency.

nothing pisses me off more than some fat ass who gets into his chevy tahoe just to go down half a block to grab a bag of chips at the corner store.
what a useless generation this is. cut back, consume less and breathe cleaner air. I say in with the compacts and ditch the SUV's. At least give those driving the compacts an insentive - mabye a tax break or charge those driving the larger vehicules a polution tax for being so wasteful. If you want to pay that tax which I think should go to public transit or anit polution measures, fine, go for.
damn, i'm just waiting for a north american SUV hog to start spewing out shit like - it's my GOD GIVEN RIGHT.
Thanks to these people for global warming, reuhmatory diseases and cancers, and the month or so of 'Smog' days we suffer in during the summer.

The name smart car comes from...
S = Swatch (the designer)
M = Mercedes (the engineer)
ART = art (the idea)

SMART car releases SMART Hummer for US. 3/4 the size of the Hummer with an even bigger gas tank and wheel base.

"Mercedes doesn't want to compete with its exsiting CLK/SLK roadsters"
That's not quite the same league though, is it?
"Honey, I was checking out this luxury roadster. look!. what do you think? It's got TV, dvd and everything, it's only $90K... I was ALSO checking out this Smart roadster.. it's got a plastic steering wheel.. and that's pretty much it.. it's $12K... And I can't decide!!"

Don't forget the new Smart Forfour !

It's fact.
They will be sold from Mercedes dealerships starting in this fall (04)

but imagine if everyone was driving option one? it wouldn't be an issue. cars need to get smaller. no reason why option 2 should be on a paved road at all. it's overkill.
and yeah, best part about number 1? won't have to worry about your kids getting it on in the back seat...
cause there IS no back seat.

Well, they are in Halifax now...
- UndoUndo0
they are knocking money off the roadster all the time.. too over priced & no performance.
Even the Brabus version is lame. for 17k you could be sitting in a 2nd hand boxster or nearly new Honda S2000
