monkey: thanks dude...i practically live at the bookstores...too bad the design sections suck my left nut.
I think I need to find out more about what they do....find the USP, an angle to work with.....
whats lacking with the competitions sites?
they look like they're done by a pack of 3rd graders! for real.
since the site is targeted to businesspeople, it needs to look corporate, clean and to help gain trust.
they come to the site to find out more about the company.
thanks for your help dude.....positive stuff
respect

Dump the photo, it looks very tacky and the lime green is quite nausea inducing.
Grab a digital camera and take 1 hour to shoot some textures/close up shots and then use details out of them. Give you something different and not as tacky. The layout and interface looks quite cool, if a little safe but thats probably what the client wants. Just do somethin with the images.

pffft, corporate.

Wow, Assassin Ave was pretty direct to your issue. And you shot him down. Your sites are very much all alike. And I'm pretty sure not every client comes to you with the same identity and mission. Design is about creative solution making. Not getting the job done and getting paid. (althought I'll admit sometimes we gotta do what we gotta do to please a client). Asking me what else you can do beside use stock photos makes you sound really unprofessional. If I remember correctly there are seven elements to design. And I'm pretty sure none of them are stock photography. Utilize the seven elements and come up with a kick ass, problem solving, money making design. It's possible. It's called design. Meh...... unity, pattern, symmetry, color, line, type, etc..... bleargh.

is that your site dconstrukt?

Oeuf: yeah thats it....I'm working on a new version using an I frame to show the work in a bigger size.
atomica: he said all my sites look alike.
If they are ALL basically sales letters and THAT is the format that sells in that industry then DUH, you do what works.
The sms dating site looks NOTHING like the others.
The fact that my sites all have a lot of copy means they all look alike?
I find that to be a dumb thing to say. Thats like saying that every site with Iframes looks alike.
Just dumb.
Marketing wise, they all come to me with the same thing, so I give them what they want.
This client is a bit conservative with things.
The client has to be pleased, they're paying for the work....sometimes I might not like it but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. If I had a ton of work and didnt care about one in particular then it wouldnt matter.
I'm curious.... for a designer to ask another designer questions to help brainstorm makes one sound unprofessional?
Where I come from its called brainstorming.....
Based on what you said, that means every site that uses stock images is shit.
like their site?
I can go on and on....
The image one the homepage is a stock image.
Its easy to knock someone, but you better believe I'm gonna open my mouth and slam someone when they talk out of their ass.
Like I said earlier, opinions are like assholes, everyones got them.
F.Y.I I did take heed to some really good advice, by a lot o people that took time to help, I appreciate that.
Some of it I didnt want to hear, but did with an open mind and I'm putting it to use.
Thanks for the help. :o)
No hard feelings.

Ian: thanks for the heads up dude...
i'm pissed...my lomo is being fixed....grrrrrrrr.

bastards.

Well wehn you're stuck its sometimes nice to go out and take some photos, get some strange angles and compositions and see if they help you. Thats the cool thing about the digital you can just shoot and fill a card, no extra cost.
My Lomo is sweet, best 60 euro I ever spent but getting the pics developed is a wee bit pricy, 15 euro for 12 shots. You gotta keep hopin they're worth it.

I'm done. You're assuming about everything I say. Content is king, no one said its not. Its what you do with it. I'm done.

atomica:
I'm going by what you said....you shouldnt be getting frustrated.... you're taking things that werent directed towards you and directing them towards you. I dont know why.
"Asking me what else you can do beside use stock photos makes you sound really unprofessional"
"If I remember correctly there are seven elements to design. And I'm pretty sure none of them are stock photography."
those are your words dude...I made valid points based on them and now you're getting pissy.
I wasnt referring to YOU as far as the comments about the content, so please re read the comments.... I was talking about the other person that made some uninformed remarks.
chill a bit, you're taking things that I say and putting them on you.... they werent intended on you. I was making comments.
again, I AM AGREEING with you....it IS what you do with it.

any new versions?
I didn't read all the posts so you probably already posted a new version? Maybe not? Either way, did you turn this in already? Still working on it?
IMO, it doesn't look like anything new or different. Although that is a broad statement, I think you could have done something that refects the company a bit more. The nav is to small and washed out. I get metal & tech mixed with money. But neither one done correctly.
You can do a lot with little content. Think about a modular approach. Consider levels of importance. Consider a color system for sections based on what they currently have.
Communicate what the company is and the purpose of the website.
Post a link if you have made changes or have already turned this in. I would like to see how this turned out.
word!

freshmode...
just changed that idea to blue and fixed a couple of minor things.
I'm taking today to geta a new perspective on the business and to get some new ideas.....
When you say something that reflects the comany a little more, can you give me an example?
I'm thinking more flat colors no bevels etc.
A color system sounds good...I'll have to look into that one.
THanks for the feedback
