cinder,
And in the job postings for your company, it also says "Macintosh experience required". There are lots of companies whos design departments are all Mac based. Most of the time it's because that's how they started. Why buy all new PC software when you can get the Mac upgrade for $400 less? I'm not saying they would upgrade to PC if price wasn't an issue, it's just more cost effective to either be all Mac or all PC.
How can Windows be shit for typography? If there is any shitty typography produced, it's the designers fault. As for font management, all the Mac and PCs here use TypeManager. They both work pretty much the same. Fonts are installed when you install them, fonts are disabled when you disable them. How else is font management a problem?
As for printing, I have to say I have never done print work on a Mac. I'm glad you brought that up though, because in all the Mac/PC discussions I've seen no one has mentioned PostScript issues. However I don't see how printing correctly on a PostScript printer has more to do with the OS. I'd love to read more about this if you have some info...
I also still can't believe that Microsoft would have it's inhouse designers using Macintosh. If I'm wrong, I'm very surprised. If Microsoft has inhouse printers (machines) that are hooked up to Macs, and you're right about the printing issues, maybe that would explain it. I can't imagine Microsoft's job application for that position saying Mac experience is required...

I can confirm for your disbelief that its true that inhouse designers at Microsoft use Macs. A good friend of mine was an art director for 5 years at Microsoft and, yup, they all had Macs.
