when i was travelling in europe on the way from Amsterdam to Copenhagen, we stopped briefly in this village. the buildings were obviously old, pre 18th century or something, but the fucking entire village was covered, i mean covered in graffiti. it was disgusting. nearly every building, churches, buses, train cars, everything was plastered in willy wonka/dr. seuss grafitti. it made me sad, i haven't viewed graff writing the same since.

i was pretty stoked on seeing those little space-invaders lurking in Paris.
...guess it's a fine line between vandalism and art...

i'm sorta with engage on this one. millions of artists and designers attempt to make 'statements' in the urban environment without the vandalization of property.
what pisses me off is that there's nothing more urban than the blue collar worker, and yet its him who has to deal with cleaning all this shit up. i'm sure there are one or two things i could put on the sides of these graf artisits' houses that they wouldn't be too fond of - so its understandable when people dismiss the creativity behind graf because some people are just assholes

on the other hand...
you can overlook the positive impact grafitti culture has had on contemporary design, let alone the field of typography. these people are artist, and they're very talented. but it would be appreciated if they just displayed their artwork in a legitimate/respectful 'forum'with that said...
i was just introduced to the work of Phos4. i like his stuff a lot. laters.

I was lucky enough to see one first hand last year on a visit to London. Grafittis Originales.

I had seen his work online and just happened to stumble upon one while overseas. Sweet.

A legitimate/respectful 'forum' would deny grafitti art part of it's essence.
It's punk rock. I don't remember punk rock ever saying please or thank you.
