Check these photos of a recent exhibition with Mode2. He showed up with no canvases. Was inspired by a few people he met before the exhibition and they ended up on the walls. Wicked freestyle.

If you knew anything about graff you would know there are rules REAL writers/artist don't write on the side of peoples homes, unless of course they have permission, strictly rebel stuff like abandoned buildings, Big vampire Corp builldings, wood boards at contruction sites, billboards, shit like that. Some people may sound petty but it's jus because you're talking shit about something that may be vandalism to you but other have a real passion for...such as my self, you really shouldn't comment on things you aren't well read on, everythings not so cut and dry, you can't just call all graffiti vandalism cause you see a few jerk offs hitting the wrong places up, you're pigeonholin' and stereotypin' that's like sayin' all great designers are white, listen to electronic music and wear square framed glasses...that's just wrong. Before this thread, Engage, I mistook you for a fairly intelligent level headed dude.

now now.. graff is absolutley most definitely vandalism (all non permissions), and for all intents and purposes, wrong.
but that does not deny it it's beauty and dignity.
my favorites were locals, some incredible with the can, some incredible at getting up and staying up...

there's more, but i've spaced as i've just woken and it's pre-coffee.
ah well, most of the people i've written with were pretty fucking amazing.

jez, vandalism? look at the places we live in? could it be more grey?
- JamesEngage0
that's not what i meant at all, and you've mistaken me for someone who allows people to go putting words into peoples mouths either...
I've seen work off very well known stencilists, that IS on peoples property, so perhaps it isn't as cut and dry as you think.
I don't mind what you think, I'm just defending my right to have an opinion, without being lambasted by the 'community' of Newstoday.

could you even name 5 well known graffiti artists that haven't already been mentioned?
Do you not work in the field of viral campaigns / advertising?
Is it ok to see McDonalds signs everywhere because they paid for the space? If I buy some space on a billboard and do a piece would you be able to look at it objectively?
And I have no problem with people disagreeing, but you seem a little draconian in your views.

thanks tank! it was my last piece and never finished it...a bit petty though i prefer plain backgrounds... i am not into the chaotic 1 million color backgrounds... i think a lot of pieces would have much more impact & aesthetical if they were painted individually... i think the best piece is at the fire-brigade of deurne, waterstraat or waterbaan... it's still there... at moment i am workin on some new 3d stuff in cinema, when it's finished i am going to put the very last piece... the most fun part about graffiti for me was the travelling and meeting other writers, the graf jams in germany were great! it's a nice community... the same for the hip hop jams in germany... lord finesse, krs one, etc... krs was the illest performance i ever saw... nostalgia!

The thing that was the made the biggest impact on me was actually a piece of vandalism... there were some new houses built across the road from me, and one of the builders got bumped for money... anyway, some days later, i stepped outside of my house to see these new houses had been 'black glossed'
Apparently it's a common thing in the building industry, basically they get a tin of black gloss paint, and throw it allover the front of the house...
Now that was a statement!

writing on the sides of pigs or any other livestock is acceptable use also :D

Loomit from germany, hands down. Twist is dope too.
Abuse from Miniapolis
Toast from Germany
Saber from LA just for doing pieces on the sides of oil tankers, and pretty much defining LA graffiti since CBS crew.

Then the well know stencils on private property is wrong who is it, I'll shoot them some mail cause the same rules apply to stencilling also.

did we/I ask for huge billboards making the city look ugly?
did we/I have any influence or power as to how the authorities or corporations make the view from my window?
Grafitti is just another way of making visual statements in the urban environment.
I respect it, as it is the ultimate DIY urban environmental design.

ah right, becasue I can't name 5 graffiti artists I'm not qualified to have an opinion...
I feel the same about bill posters too... I'm sorry but it's just the way I feel.. I'm not going to change my mind.
I don't want an arguement.
