The XPS gaming system is actually a really good and decently costed spec! You could obviously get it cheapr buying everything and building it yourself - but for the sake of a few hundred dollars and a massive headache if you don't know what you're doing - it's a shit hot gaming box....
that mp3 player though...kinda goes with sexypixels KOSS headphones in the 80's design dept..

i think all that stuff looked good for the exception of the mp3 player.
the gaming system influenced by the success of alienware for sure. remember good design has a lot to do with the audience. that blue space ship is made for 15 year goons.
dell refurbs are very hard to beat for the dollar.

i don't think i'd agree with that - if you want to be safe and give people what they want maybe, surely thats design for designs sake? someone doesn't have to be a "designer" to do that

i've got the new xps set-up... and I could care less what my computer LOOKS LIKE...
... it's what's inside - what it's capable of doing - the support - etc etc that matter to me.
It's somewhat foolish to critique a product like a pc based on what it looks like. Because there's some slick looking stuff out there that functions bad.
Dell's a good company - they back up their well-functioning products with great service.

is it just me or are pc folk getting a bit paranoid about people making anti-pc comments? heh..
different things matter to everything.. i'm an industrial designer - i give a shit about how things look, i never mentioned anything about how they work.. i'm sure they work great.. i'm not trying to knock what you've just spent probably a lot of your hard earned cash on..
