Is there any way to PREVENT iPhoto from starting up when I connect my digital camera?
I prefer the software that Canon shipped my 10D with.

I believe I found this... let me look

I'd rather not resort to removing it from my computer. I did that to the stupid Preview application in OS 9 to force my jpegs to open in Photoshop if I double clicked them.

"Force Quit" is the only way I've been able to stop it...
it sucks.

try deleting your iphoto preferences, inside your home/library/preferences. find all iphoto files and delete them. open iphoto, and you get get a dialog box asking if you want iphoto to open when a camera is connected. not 100% sure if this would work, but give it a shot....

Should be very easy.. open Image Capture (Apps>ImageCapture) then open the preferences, and choose the app you want to open from the 'When a camera is connected, open' drop down menu.. works fine for me..

That's right. I just got that info from a friend. Thanks. Death to iPhoto!!

and changing the default app for jpgs or pdfs or html files or whatever you don't want to open in preview is really easy too...
just "get info" on a document that would've opened in the wrong app, then drop down "open with", change it to photoshop or whatever, and click "change all..."
booyah...

I think you can set the icapture to open your camera drive instead of iphoto in image capture prefs....
then you can turn that off as well, and just use the camera's software.....
make sense? I did it
