The big compatibility jump was from OS9 to OSX... any problems from 10.0 thru to 10.3 are usually solved with free updates to programs.
Even a few months old versions of Default Folder (more of an extension than a program) causes ALL applications to crash in Panther... but there is already a free update available to cover that...

I imagine this is a stupid question, but does anyone know how slightly older versions of programs will react with Panther?
I'm thinking of buying it, but I don't exactly have the latest versions of Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, etc.

brianmalcolm, is your ibook a G3 or a G4?
- BrianMalcolm0
ya, i installed it on my 500mhz white ibook, and it's A LOT more responsive... i had stopped using it much when i put jaguar on it, but this is a huge OS speed increase...
thanks, by the way for the help... i deleted helvetica fractions, and everything seems to have gone back to normal...
still have mixed feelings on font book... gotta keep messing with it i guess...

Panther is supposed to give slower computers a huge increase in performance. On newer ones you won't notice much difference but you get expose which is worth it alone.

Do any retail stores carry it besides the apple store?

Panther is great!!! Expose rocks, everything runs quicker and more fluid. The opening of applications is cooler if you actually do it by double clicking an icon (gotta love eye candy). Things are just a lot more logically layed out, especially navigating the finder and save dialogues. Well worth it.

derek, how did you get it a week ago? do you work at a Apple Store?
I work at the Richmond store, the event last night was crazy. still don't have a copy yet though. it sucked coming home and not being able to get all funky with Expose, love that shit.

to brian: you seem to have a font conflict with a system font. the problem is usually a helvetica font (at least what happened to me). try removing helvetica font(s) from your font book and system folder.
