...instead of design?
I'm having a bit of a career crisis. Design is an elitist industry and can be extremely unrewarding.
I feel I don't want to work in design anymore but I don't think there's anything else I'd rather do, especially after all the effort I've put in.
Anyone ever been in a similar position and decided to just pack it all in? And if so, what did you do instead?

Try harder, and be an elitist or something?

I think all of us have felt like you do at the moment at some point in our lives.
Persevereance and a positive mental attitude!

...I'm in the same sitaution stimuli. Since more redundancies the atmosphere and work load is ridiculous...All day yesterday I was thinking, what else can I do apart from design, but there isn't anything Id be good at. Design has got to be one of the most unrewarding, unappreciated jobs there is...

Stimuli:
I know what your saying and It also doesn't help when you have shitty co-workers with there heads up there ass about their degree giving them infinate wisdom, and cos I aint got the word creative and director infront of my name I am wortrhless.

what couldnt you do. theres loads to do.
Im leaving design, but I dont worry about it. im young (ish) educated, articulate.
I wrote down the skills that being a professional designer gave me.
just a few:
creative thinker
great personal skills
exellent with deadlines
calm under pressure
organisedjust write them down. I dont know an industry in the world that doesnt appriciate those skills. Its all about selling yourself.

Jevads not often wrong...
"Persevereance and a positive mental attitude!"
just about sums it up. with that you can what ever the fuck you want

jevad and kingkezza got some good points. If you used to love design and are just feeling tired, check some good work out, get out and see what other creatives are doing (step away from the computer) and try and find your inspiration again.
But design isn't the whole creative world. Music, film, photography all rock me: what else are you into that you could apply your skills to?

looking at the other tread; you're not stil earning £8000 are you? Are you still at the same place?
I wonder if its not the industry you're sick of but simply bad employer experience? Maybe you could enjoy what you do if you find a more forward thinking, respectful employer or maybe freelance.

Rasko
Yeah your right I hate where I am and i've been thinking about freelance for sometime I have had three years studio experience, so I feel I could handle any brief from start to finish, but I'd rather be part of a team I respect and can work and bounce ideas off, plus I just bought a house so taking that step must come some way to out weight what I earn at the minute to even think about leaving. plus creativley Yorkshire is a sparse place compared to the bright lights of london.

Londons not all its cracked up to be. every year there are 10000 design grads. most of them come to London. not that many jobs.
