I'm looking for some kickass ambient type sounds and music for use on various projects ranging from websites to motion pieces. If you know of any artists in particular list em' here!
Always liked the stuff from here:

I heard these tracks in the car an hour ago, quite some good stuff.

Although I think 'ambient' is a term that has been bastardised into something referring to any downbeat/mellow electronic music, me very very favourite mellow music makers are Boards Of Canada.
In fact Boards Of Canada do (along with a a few others) create some of my most favourite music.
I love them

defunktion..
if you find out about the artists in the playlist I posted you will not find much electronica.. this, however is still ambient to me.
"do make say think" has some excellent tracks.

defunktion is exactly right, it just depends on how fast or slow your sequencer is set, goes from Trip-Hop to Ambient to freakin' DnB, etc.

A lot of the more melodic/ambient stuff from 'God Speed You Black Emperor' is just beautiful.

Hmmm, I mean your really not allowed to use artist's material unless you license it anyway. Diggin' someone's style is one thing, using it in a commercial project is anotha'. :)

some couple of ambient ones by "do make say think" :
If I only
Classic Noodlanding
MinMin (very, very minimal/ambient)

those are nice guys 4cy and Unfit. wow I never knew them.

oops. Agreed Jaz, using this in a comercial project is definetely a no-no.

yes, JazX is right on the copyrights issue thingy..
better check that..
damn, i haven't even read that part well of Rummy's post.. I had the idea you wanted to discover new artists in ambient music..
not all of the references I posted here would fit well on a corporate flash site with (sometimes annoying) sound on it.

bill laswell rocks my ambient world.

Bill Laswell has one cool track with William Burroughs... what's its name?...

William Burrough's stuff with Ministry was WILD! Yeah, I just thought I would throw that in for your sake, Rummy. The whole copyright thing is taken like SUPER serious with those guys. It's how they make money, he hee, personally, I think all music should be free. :)

you could go to Acid Planet and find something you like, contact the artist and see if you can use it. I've made about 30 ambient songs, only about 3 which I've released. I've licensed them to people over the years. Some Pro-Bono some for nice bucks. It's just fun with Reason. :)

godspeed you black emperor is definitely awesome...great stuff to work to.
how about the granddaddy of them all, the orb?
i've never done this myself, but i understand licensing music is suprisingly cheap for projects, as long as you don't mind the paperwork involved.

licensing music by far isn't cheap. I've licensed single loops to the likes of sony-columbia pictures for website work and I charged them 4K and they could have cared less and paid me in 2 days. Easiest money I ever made. If you think you will get something cheaper than that from major artists, I seriously doubt it. If you get caught using unlicensed music you can get seriously sued though. :)

This is the one I remember. William Burroughs in 'Words of Advice', cool/hillarious!

For ambient electronica it's worth checking out Israeli maestros Taa Pet.
