I spent a month planning a flying lesson for my lady's birthday once..it was smoother than the italian job, everything arranged down to the last detail, on the big day took her all the way to the airstrip blindfolded.. and the fucker was closed. Never got over it and everything I've got her since pales in comparison. Don't do anything to flash if it's not going to work in other words...

As they say, a gift you make yourself means so much more.
So, put a little elbow grease into it and make a teddy-like garment from paper sacks or actual fabric, a little duct tape, and glue.
You can achieve the "semi-transparent lace look" by folding the fabric and cutting in the way you wood to make a paper snowflake.
