what really puts egg on Gabes face (the founder and directing manager of Valve who's computer was breached) is that he's a former employee of Microsoft w/ about 17 years tenure there. ouch!

#1 Valve, get some friggin security
#2 Microsoft, make fucking secure software
How much money has been lost through bugs and holes in MS's software?
It's in the billions.

"Microsoft, make fucking secure software"
unfortunatley, it's not that simple, because if it were, microsoft would have the most secure os/applications given all the money behind it. even *nix-based os's have their fair share of holes, with new ones being discovered and exploited every day.
it's not just a matter of writing your sofware correctly, but using VERY strict coding standards. some of the most basic security holes are found by simply overflowing a buffer, so the thought of writing the perfect os w/ no holes isn't just daunting and overwhelming, it's damn near impossible.
with time factors aside, if a car theif wants to get into a car, he/she is going to get in one way or another. it's the same with hackers/crackers, except time is not an issue for them.
