Hiya everybody,
When you load an external mp3 into a swf file what is the best rate to use to maintain the best sound quality with the most usuability? I'm loading a mp3 file from another web location in to a flashmovie to stream with it. It works fine here, but not at my friend's. The music tends to skip or stop halfway.... any tips or tricks?

I WOULD SAY 16KBPS BUT TALK TO JAZX, HE KNOWS BETTER!
SAY, WHY DA F**K ARE WE SCREAMIN'?

I wouldn't say I'm an expert with Flash, but I know my way around it. Unfit it right, I believe 16 would work. I know more about maximizing the music before you ever import. :)

Are you doing this through and XML parsing file or something?

well, in terms of the skipping, you are sourcing something from another location externally, so you will have a little bit of latency, especially depending upon connexion speed, right? I mean I would think so. If you are trying to loop something you will want to work in .wav not .mp3 for ease of use.

you could write some kind of preloading code that preloads the .mp3's either themselves (not sure about that) or within an extrenal .swf, which you'll have the .mp3's embedded in. Know what I mean greenbean?

imo 16kb/s is waay too low. if you're loading in external mp3s on the fly, i'm figuring it's music, not event-based sounds.
i wouldn't go below 80-96k/s in fact. if you know your audience is broadband, go for 96 or higher. that's what most streaming audio files are encoded at anyway...

16 kb/s is too low, it's great music and should be heard in that way. I currently load the mp3 from the site's url, I think my hopes should be on how to include buffer time /preload.
mysound = new sound();
mysound.loadSound ("http://www.theurl.com/music03... true);
mysound.start();The file is too long/big to make an swf out of it because the whole swf will first have to be loading untill any sound will play... we'll see!

yeah it could be it's too low, try to gradually improve the rate, see what happens. I'm not exactly sure. :)
