the data is still there, BUT, if you continue browsing and such, it will overwrite that freespace with new data. be lucky it wasnt permanent delete in panther, cause then you would be FUCKED.

And when you solve this one... start an automated backup plan?
i.e. setup something that backups up regularly without you having to do anything ... Retrospect, Carbon Cloner or similar

yea. my buddy has one, where he plops a DVD-R in the drive and it backs up most of his shit over night...set, and forget. lol

better still is a large Firewire drive... backup the whole drive with incremental backups each night using Retrospect... you can jump back to multiple versions of files, any file you have ever had saved overnight... the backup file can get larger than your main drive eventually, but its nice to have...
If you really want to safeguard your work, you've gotta assume your main drive is going to crash, catch fire, get stolen, be erased by the user...

I feel your pain. I had a drive die on me the week I got laid off in Nov of 2001. It had my entire website on their, support files and all.
I paid about $300 for data recovery and got everything back. They charge per gigabyte and that was an old drive with only 8 gigabytes on it.
This is a more desperate measure than what Norton may be able to do for you, but you could resort to this.
