Watched the movie Dark City over the weekend. Great film and I cannot believe I have not see it sooner.
I also cannot get over how mush the Matrix Has RIPP this film off.

Sone one should tell Tarantino that making movies for the sake of paying homage to other movies is something he himself is guilty of four times already. Mining the past hardly leaves room for originality. Dissolve into your kung-fu bullshit.

I think Dark City and Matrix have many similarities but still play out differently enough in pacing and style. I always thought Dark City deserved more credit and the Matrix less, but I never felt that the later was a total rip of the former. Some of the villans in DC are so much cooler than Matrix.

C'mon guys, if you mix Hellraiser, Bladerunner, Nosferatu, Videodrome, Fahrenheit 451, Neuromancer, Akira, and Geoff Darrow's "Hard Boiled" in a blender, and what do you get?
Comparing two genre films side-by-side is a bit futile...
You could do the same thing with about 600 different Westerns, and 1000 different Kung Fu flicks.
The Wachowskis are huge fans of hard SF. It only makes sense that the Matrix would end up a huge melting pot of themes that have been floating around the genre for the past 25 years.
They just had a better hype machine... and Keanu... and Trinity.
Best thing about the Matrix is that it took half the money, a kickass story, and a great cast...
