Japan, Fixed-fee Optical Fiber right into my house, 100Mbps.
4,500 Yen per month.
(about 45 US$)
Have a friend on the same service in Tokyo and I can take a 750mb file from his ftp server in 6 minutes or less. (and maintain concurrent connections with the same speeds...!)
Fiber rules.

thats it.. japan kicks ass
- Chip0
Yep, Tokyo has some good fiber networks in place already.
What's cool also is that NTT actually ran fiber cable directly up my street to my house when I ordered it and that was no extra charge !!!
Love it.
BT Broadband in London has just got up to the massive size of 1mbps.
What a laugh.
The only problem I encounter is that not many sites are pumping content out fast enough. But its nice to stream movies directly off a friends ftp server at full screen DVD quality.

56k dialup $21.95/mo
:(
i cant get any kind of highspeed in my area. DSL was the only thing avialable. I got a phone line/DSL package from Verizon, a week after they install the line, i get an email (!), saying that the line is incompatible with DSL (!!) and that my only option really is to keep getting phone lines until i get a compatible one (!!!!!!!!!). Fuck that shit, 56K aint that bad.

well the home connection sucks, goes down every night.. their customer care is more like customer don't care. I can't even count all the times i've fought with them. But I guess you get what you pay for..

the UK is shit thanks to those miserable old boys at BT, I've just moved flat and today ordered a 1mb line for £29.

I've got ISDN since broadband is pretty unlikely as I live in a fairly remote place.
I get 64kb solid for about £30 per month - with BT CONNECT ANYTIME (so no call charges)
I can use 128kb free isp which charges me for two calls if I need more "speed".
I've got used to the speed (or lack of it) but the connection is pretty robust and fine for most things.
