If you like Tolkien you will surely enjoy the first 2 series by David Eddings:

Of course Tolkien was the first congruent conveyour of this fantasy style - if one dismiss earlier attemps, but still Eddings is a nice enticing read.

Pretty good book. I don't hate books, but I don't like the heaviness of Tolkien's stuff. His stuff is epic, for sure, but I just tune out / blank out after reading it for a while.

The Hobbit is superior in every way to Lord of the Rings.

Agreed, i_monk. I loved the Hobbit but when I got into The Lord of the Rings it got a little long and boring at times with all the history and scenery. Great stories though, and well written overall. I read them back in high school and am I'm listening to the audiobooks at work right now to refresh.

in case you didnt know the 'boring bits' in LOTR are the same as in the book... its clever because the more arduous the journey the harder the book becomes to read... its a real "we're right there with you" kind of thing... very cool.

Great book, also recommend The Book of Lost Tales and The Silmarillion for more background and 'history' of Middle Earth...
