I had a friend who travelled from Portugal just to look for a job in the movie / multimedia area, and after 1 month got tired of looking for.
for her lucky, she met a guy from Rietvelt school and got in to cinema course. his chances will be triplicated in 6 months or so...
just to say that it's kind of hard there without a pre-assignment or verbal contract before packaging.

you can go to the movies and order a beer. And i mean a f-ing glass of beer! And they have mayonaise on everything.. on your fries and shit!

The market is horrible in Amsterdam, but it is improving lately.
The webdesign market is in worse shape than the advertising market, so I would suggest to look into that direction as well.
There are some vacancies at:

yeah times are pretty tough (read: crap) here, with the netherlands apparently in a recession. I'm at a Euro RSCG office, things are a little bumpy in the HAVAS empire anyway.

yeah finding a nice room in A'Dam is hell. I was lucky to have a dutch friend moving to Rotterdam so he could trade his flat with me. Otherwise is back to the good ol' sub-sub-sub-sub-renting scheme...
