and make sure it's set as slave (no jumpers on any of the 4 sets of pins on the Seagate Barracuda)

do you see an "initialize" button. its the same thing.
you may need to erase it before formatting.

Thanks Creon but the only thing I can do is 'partition', can't see the format-button..
When I hit partition, he keeps on preparing the drive but nothing happens..

Yes, just select "Mac os extended" and any partitions you want and then hit "format".
be sure tho: you need to follow the instructions that came with your drive on what to do with the limitation jumper. osx can handle big drives, but many computers can't... so there is a jumper on the back of the drive that makes the computer think you have a smaller drive (which osx doesn't need). your drive manual wll tell you how to reomve or where to put it so you can get the full drive space.

Should I format with Disc Utility?
thanks
- Creon0
Did you format it correctly?
Should be "MacOS Extended"
NOTHING ELSE!

don't listen to him, he lies all the time.

you need to initialize the HD first using drive setup, then restart and all will be just lovely
- fues0
DU says it's set to slave..
- jox0
maybe you haven't set master / slave correctly?
Or.. maybe it doesn't work like that on a mac.

this sounds like the reason i uninstalled that horrid OX10. It fucking hides everything.

I've just installed a new HD (Seagate Barracuda) into a G4.
When I open Disc Utility, it shows the HD but I can't find the disc on my desktop.
Am I doing something wrong here?
