www.plus.net works fine for me...

http://www.zenadsl.co.uk are doing fine for me, £27.99 a month and it's only a one month contract so you're not tied into it for too long if you move.
http://www.bulldogdsl.com/ are doing 1mb for about £30 though so they might be worth a try.

been with pipex for 18 months with no problems. £24 a month

I just moved from Openwoe to Bulldog DSL 1mbps... They do up to 6mbps and quite a few off-peak plans too...depends if you live in the right area.

im with bt (mediocre in the 2.5 yrs ive had em), but i have heard good things about ZEN - and they do 1month contract minimums so you can back out if you have a bad experience. do NOT get freeserve

Freeserve is OK (However if you want to disconnect it after 12 months contract, you need to wait 2 months... very annoying, but not a bad company...), Although it has a free modem for you.... so go for it :P

I;ve just upgraded my anytime freeserve account to freeserve broadband... and got the modem in the post yesterday... wired it up to my laptop etc... all okay... but it says it can take up to 10 days for them to do their bits at their end... my questions are
1) How many days does it actually take.
2) Does the modem need to be constantly on for this period of time, for them to do their connection thing... as I set it up on my laptop, and had to being the laptop to work?
Any answers would be greatly received... ta.

a) up to 10 days
b) no, it takes them up to 10 days to flick a switch, slackers.
- JamesEngage0
howany days did it take for yours? or are you guessing on the reliability of freeserve? :)
- rasko40
well actually I wasn't with freeserve but they all say the same thing and yes, mine did take the full 10 days. I phoned and waqs given an actual activation date.

You're lucky that you can't get NTL broadband! I've had problems from the very beginning. The cd that they provided me with to "get connected' managed to mess up my hard drive... (the same cd made a friends mac think that it had deleted it's HD) so after spending several hours on the phone to them and a techie being sent out, I decided to reformat my mac and try connecting without their 'connect cd'. This worked.
Then the NTL box broke, so they brought us a new one 2 days later. Unfortunately, we couldn't reconnect yet again. Their technicians came out but couldn't connect us either. I decided to reformat the mac again... this sorted out whatever the probelem was and were connected again. Then the box broke again a few months later... again we couldn't reconnect to the mac, so we had to hook it up to our other mac.
When we moved house, NTL told us that we were not in the right area to get broadband... After several calls of me insisting that we were (there was a fookin cable box in our lounge)! So they sent someone out to have a look and then realised that I was right. When it came to plugging the mac in.... surprise surprise, neither of them would connect. So after hours on the phone to NTL "support' they sent a pc technician out (I was told by the pc techie that they don't actually have mac technicians). Anyway, eventually we tested the network cards.. and both network cards were not working! Both of them! I'm not sure how both the network cards became damaged??? But it's all very dodgy. Each time you phone up 'support' it takes you at least 45 mins to get through to anyone and then they tell you that they'll put you through to somebody else.. so you're on hold for another 30 mins or so. They haven't changed their freaking 'on hold' music for nearly 2 years (it's a 10 minute loop!)
Just recently NTL broadband's been really shitty in my area.. it was off for most of the weekend a couple of weeks ago.. and would randomly go off for a few hours before that.

so what are you trying to say ness?
;)
- nessdog0
haha. I'm trying to say that they need to shave their asses and sort it out.
