bleh!
I'd rather have a Linux box. Wait, I do have a Linux box...er...I'd rather have an Amiga.

Dude, I had an Amiga 500, Deluxe Paint III, that was the shit. Knew I'd be a digital artist every since.

Man... get a MAC... seriously.
But keep a PC under your desk for the so little occasions when you may use it.

i went to check out a g5 last night. sad to say but i was disapointed.
the box is huge and heavy as hell, it wasnt as fast as i expected. the lcd displays are the best ive seen, but not that great really. plus i have big sticker shock.
really, i dont think macs and pcs are all that different.

At the risk of sounding like "can't we all just get along", it doesn't really matter what you get. PC's, Mac's, Linux's, even Amiga's are all capable of producing the same files at the same qualities. Get the one you're comfortable with and can afford.
For me, the design of the casing doesn't apply, but I can see where that would be important to some.
Oh yeah, there is that other issue... If you feel the need to make some sort of idealogical stand against Billy G and the gang in Redmond. That's not very good logic to put behind a major expense though.

What about the G4 powerbook. In terms of mc vs pc laptops is it better to go with the powerbook?

And there is a lot to consider when you're picking up a G5.
1.)Get a dual, no questions asked.
2.)Stack the ram.
3.)Realize that benchmarks right now don't take advantage of recompiled software, aren't optimized, Panther reportedly gives a 30-40% performance boost to Mac machines, and most benchmarks do not turn off slewing.
The dual machine is a beast--and OSX romps windows imo. Mine is in the post come the 22nd of this month. :)

Example, new G5 dual benchmarks with optomized Photoshop code:

It wins 15/21 tests. :)

Of course...
not.
Save your money and go with a PC and SEVERAL nights out getting drunk.

No, I use a mac and it sucks!

"The normalized score for the PowerMac G5 2.0GHz comes to 547, which gives it the highest (best) score out of all the other computers in the list, beating out a dual 3GHz Xeon (overclocked)."
That's just interesting. The optomized code runs quite a wild margin faster than it used to on the same machine. I don't really care--I use both platforms.

u can use any type of mouse on macs as well.
you need to ditch the mouse that comes with the package.. it's useless.
altho i would love to know what mouse is delivred with the G5?
btw. can someone lead me to pics of someone unpacking the G5, thus showing all that is delivered?
(and not some Apple promo please)..

" the lcd displays are the best ive seen, but not that great really."
