Anybody rockin' that machine?

I wish. I am going for the 8500/D800. Close in performance, just not the professional graphics card (although they do have a new 128mb Geforce).

DEll? I dunno about it. What are the specs?

I'm pending between 8600 and M60. I need a fat graphics card to keep my maya scenes happy.
The M60 is beggin' me to buy it.
Here is a review of it

hmmm... it looks like the M60 is spec'd exactly like the Inspiron 8600 but costs $1000 more.
Whatever you choose, be sure to buy through the Home channel to avoid paying tax.
I am buying an 8600 this winter to replace my wonderful 8100. Yummy!

that dell is quite impressive although i'm going to have to stick the Dual G5.
i'd love to have that dell for testing though.

M60 got the NVIDIA Quadro FX 700 Go 128mb ddr
a whoppin' grand for more power and resolution and hd is a 7.2k rpm. that's all the difference I could see
8600 is sweet bitch too
can you just give your old machine back and get a new one and add the difference?
If you have that special care programme insurance stuff you could just break your old shit and ask for the 8600 right?
Now that would be too easy

If you can afford it, go for it.
Depends on the Maya scenes, too. I can't really tell the difference between my archaic Geforce2 64mb and my Quadro 4 700 gxl, but I do mostly architectural work, so the scenes are either tiny, and it doens't matter, or they are so huge I think I'd need a much better card.

yup all depends on what you work on.
anybody in europe dealing with dell? seems like different european countries have different prices, germany seems to be the cheapest to order from.
- unknown0
actually if you compare the specs closely, the only real difference between the 8600 and the M60 is the graphics card and the case design.
They both have WUXGA screens, 7200 RPM HDD, 2G RAM capacity.
Dell does not list the board models, but I have a feeling they share the same mobo.Since I am a potential buyer I am nitpicking, but these are sweet laptops and I finally realized I don't need a gigantic workstation to write actionscript. He he.

i have a year old 1.8 Dell Latitude with 1 gig of memory and a gforce 4 mobile..
the video card could be better of course but this thing smokes.... very fast..... churns through everything like it was air...
- unknown0
I wonder why they don't offer the quadro for the 8600?
Hey can you bargain with dell to get that sucka cheaper?
- mbr0
Not from my experience. They do have refurbished ones where the discount changes almost weekly. I have a refurbisehd dual 2.2 and it came new - really, all boxed with all the tape, packages, etc., in place. Same warranty as new and I saved about a grand!
Keep an eye on them, though.
The laptops where $450 off the normal refurbished prices about a week ago and there were about 20 to chose from (that met my criteria). Those were all bought in one day. Now the disount is a paltry $150, but most people don't watch it as closely as I do ;-)!

If I would live in the States though I would definitely check out Sager. I heard nothing but praise about their laptops

ûp
- mbr0
Yeah, those Sager's look like good deals.
Problem is, is that I already have Dells and I really like the idea of calling one number if I have problems. That's a huge time savings, esp. for the business tech support.
The only other company I would consider is http://www.boxxtech.com , as I've heard superb things about them and many of the large 3D houses use their systmes. Ain't cheap, though, but I hear they do negotiate a little.
- unknown0
As it seems dell support is ace plus their warrenty won't make you sweat in case shit happens.
Too bad boxx ain't making laptops

you guys love our products that good to see.. I work at dell in Austin Texas just thought i'd say thanks I like the M60 myself I see about 20 setting in our labs. but they will not give me one :(
- unknown0
why does the M60 only have DDR SDRAM 266 MHz and not like the 8600 DDR SDRAM 333 MHz even though it's the same mobo ??
- unknown0
I'm bound to click the confirmation button but that memory issue bugs me to hell.
- unknown0
anybody know about the memory?
