flash ants won't git down

I have a flash piece that's having a hard time publishing.
The scene is a screen that fills up real thick with ants, and so there's like 3000 instances of the same symbol. (a very simplified ant walking loop)
anyways.. the goal is to get it published as a quicktime, but it's too heavy to publish, the swf won't build either.
any tricks I might be missing out on for this kind of a heavy set up?

generally whenever you have that many copies of any movie clip on stage, its bogs down cpu's like crazy.. even if it was like, a square with one frame.
what happens is that flash has to figure out how to play 3000 simultaneous timelines. i've toyed around with this a few times in the past and never really found a good solution.
what you could try is perhaps doubling up if its feasable.. maybe having a movie clip with 5 or 10 ants walking and have less instances of them. but it can't just be movie clips within a movie clip either, cause that'll just make it worse ;)
about publishing as a quicktime, if there's any coding involved it won't do it. qt's only for straight up animation.
good luck

is this going to be used for video?

yeah, it's for video.
I'vemade sure there's no actionscripts, and all the symbols are graphic.the only problem is the 3000 instances suck dryin' the CPU

how cool would it be if you could actually record actionscripted motion to QT?
way cool I say.

yeah, that'd be a helpful addition.
Maybe there's some other way to fill the screen with ants.
I'm going for the look of television static with ants for the black specks. it looks sooo cool in the fla, but I havn't ot to see it flow yet.

you could do 30 different animations with 100 'ants' each, withe the background = alpha transparency. Then you could work all of them in Premiere or After Effects, making one big 'ant farm'.

yeah that's what i was gunna suggest

somewhat unrelated.. i was thinking of making an antfarm game a while back.. i'd love to see how this turns out, you know for inspiration or whatever.
i think maxis already made some kind of sim-ant game.. but i was thinking of making it more of a living breathing ant colony you could play with.
