just a bit of advice... dont get to carried away with your portfolio..
heres why...
if your portfolio is awesome and your work in it sucks.. thats a really bad thing...
2. even if your work is good make sure te portfolio still doesnt outshine it..
3. Be different with your portfolio.. but go simple.. and let your work shine...
if your work is great you could put it in a paper bag and you will get hired...
if your work is soso.. a great portfolio case willl just seem like yoru trying to compensate for a lack of content.
just be careful

qburt,
thanks for the advice. however, this is not for my personal portfolio. i've been assigned at work to come up with a case, the company has more than enough solid content that there's no problem. but they pretty much have been carrying the work around in a paper bag and are ready for an upgrade.

I'm w/ Qburt here ... I teach graphic design and one year we had a teacher teach a special "portfolio case design" class where the students learned tecniques to make their own portfolio cases - the result was gold cases, all sorts of cases wrapped in wallpaper, cases w/ dusks and buttons and shit. I'm not exactly in favour of using a paper bag - but this class taught me that a case should at best be neutral, rather than try to compete w/ the actual work
