and I'd also like to know just how far back they're going...
Back to Napster days? 2000? 1999?

mg33...
i kinda thought of the same thing... it seems as long as you arent the one dealing the goods, your chances of getting busted or caught could be remarkably less. so to have 2 folders would seem like a smart precaution to take untill further notice.. or just not use it at all and start saving your money.

So who are they actually going after? Downloaders or people who make songs available? Because most things I've read seem to slant to those who make songs available on their hard drive and not people who download tons of songs.
After you download songs, can't you just put them in another folder and make the Kazaa folder the only one that's searched?Or, is whatever method the RIAA using (likely just as illegal as the "theft" of mp3s their trying to stop) scanning entire hard drives, even if all but the Kazaa folder are blocked from being searched by other Kazaa users (or any file sharing for that matter) because you can set it up that way in the preferences.

Here's what I want to know:
What CAN we download??Certainly not every mp3 you find is illegal to download.
What are indie labels saying about this? How much of the music in the US does the RIAA deal with?
For people who have downloaded a song that lead to purchasing the album, I'd like to see those stats shown to the greedy snakes, so they could see just how mp3s can contribute to sales. Probably not an overwhelming amount, but probably more so than if mp3 downloading didn't exist at all.
