...wins Mercury Music Prize.

he should've won "best stoned" and "worst jacket".
- unknown0
shite..
saw him on the tv this morning bigging up his east end massive,
fourtet should have won, but wasnt even nominated.
of the ones that were I would have given it to radiohead I have to admit.
- tomkat0
hmmm...yeah, but i think radiohead give a sh*t about awards, anyway.
- debris0
fuck yeah. dizzee is the shit.
- unknown0
the mercury prize always seems to try too hard to pick a winner that is new on the scene, its like a prerequisite which sometimes seems false and aims only to please the tits that blindly follow what is 'new' and deemed 'cool' or 'underground'.
its bollocks.

i had heard him on a radio as i was in london in the summer months he all gaga gaga ra ra, shouting an d all, is it not fair of giving prizes to such people what does that say to people wanting to make new music, hav to shou grrr grrr all the time, and whn they do not win a prize they will start to shout grr grr grr gagaga and all stuff. silly prize for music.
- rasp0

Dizzee Rascal is apalling. He is not a good MC (his rymes are s weak - all two line ryming creating no real rythm) and his tunes and beats are just boring. Nothing grabs me about what he does. He represents the latest wave of underground black music creeping into the mainstream in this country and it is like the music industry has embraced him for this reason. I really think that there is a fear in the industry to call shit black music shit because of potential racism claims. Compare this to when white guitar bands become stale, very quickly the death of rock music is announced. Where as really there is just a lull in the natural cycle of creativity and the is a resurgence in a couple of years after this. This never happens where MOBO is concerned, we are continually told that whatever whatered down garage or R&B is around at the time is cutting edge and everyone should accept this. Bollox I say.
- Blofeldt0
you're right about Thailand mate
- rasp0
well, i think he is pretty fucking talented.
well done to the guy for getting off his arse enough to put out something he loves and get recognition for his efforts.
- Wolfboy0
I am not dissing his effort, I have masses of respect for anyone who suceeds in producing art that they believe in. I am questioning the pluadits this type of derivitive stuff gets from the industry. It just seems it is put in this cutting edge bracket because it is 'urban'. It is not a patch (in terms of interesting new ideas) on say Roni Size (former Mercury winner). It doesn't make you sit up and listen like say the Prodigy stuff did. It is bland, his rymes are weak and it brings nothing new to the table. There is nothing wrong with producing music like this, it is the praise it gets that pisses me off. It is the same with 50 cent, just another standard DR Dre sound rapper - essentially the same sound as all the other Dre bitches (snoop, Xibit etc.) but he is lauded as something amazing. It is bollox.

I like you quiz stuff and department s by the way rasp. What was department s about?

- unknown0
go on admit it - you think he's shite
- unknown0
you know...
after actually watching the ceromony, I think hes a bit of a knob, but that 'fix up, look sharp' is a very good tune, really original.
and to boot the best 'graphic design' video since that prince video about HIV.
so I retract my comment. his albums pretty good really, especially as he did it at school when he was 17

pile of wank - the darkness shoudl have won
- unknown0
the darkness although entertaining, are a bit of a novelty act.
