New site is up now. I'm not so crazy about it, really. It isn't much compared to the last one up.
Anyone know who did it?

*sigh*
where's Kioken/Joshua when you need them?
it could have been somewhat more engaging, indeed.

dull and uninspiring as fuck!
- PrayStation0
wow - even I'm bummed to have just seen this.
:(

lol!
did you know they were doing a redesign?

who stole the soul?

it's in keeping with the generally glum realities of retail these days

I was not a big fan of the new site, it was just a big excuse to have something flashy and experimental, nav was cool, but somehow the site was missing the point, I can tell by some of my friends going through the site for a shopping experience.
This new site looks dissapointing, they might as well do something like Sears or Kmart.
Sorry for giving a comment on one of Joshuas masterpieces.

Mm, but it's easy to use, isn't it? That means its easier to buy stuff, and someone's more likely to give it a try.
I can't say it's the most beautiful site ever, but hey - it's functional, and you get a nice look at those products.

I don't see what's wrong with it.
It's not mind blowing, but at least it centers the attention of the viewer on the "stellar" photography rather than flashy graphics. Though, it certainly does underuse the potential of Flash.
But don't mind me. I just tend to do boring websites, so I can relate to the site. ;)

why not have great photography and great graphics that show off the product more?
to show focus on a site, niether has to suffer. in fact they could have made it even more simple to navigate, kept the entire site in flash , rather than going back and forth between flash and html... there are evenmore things that they could have done to make it simple...
a well designed site should be easy to navigate and still focus on content and presentation. the point of flash is to ENHANCE THE product and not to show off graphics in a corp. site such as this one. i believe it lacks in showing off the merchandise.

strangly I was impressed by the new lighter layout and opening visual when I first got to the new site.
I think the old site was beautiful and fluid but it definitely had problems when it came to actually navigating and buying products.
unfortunately this new site hasn't solved some of the core issues like the ability to bookmark products... very important. also, why use flash at all if it's there's no movement and "flashyness"?
the product photography is pretty bad... you can tell the designers didn't care about the product photography. I can barely make out what that $5700 cell phone looks like... PC users will see an even darker image.
I give this site a C- at best.
Maybe the old site was harder to navigate, but it was a site that branded barneys as a high class establishment and attracted lots of attention. is it archived somewhere?

also, still browsing... some of the lines are not pixel perfect!! annoying!
a drop shadow on the picnic basket? and why confine the photography to those black boxes? bigger photos = better! make em big!

dead inside.

Looks to me like a case of the last so called "kick ass"site being too hard for regular folk to navigate - hence the new version being simple and straight to the point.
works for me.

Damn. And I thought I was going to see a big purple dinosaur...

there will be no "buzz" around this site launch.
pretty boring.
not even all that practical.
could have been alot better.

It's just that they obviously put effort into developing the site, they spent the money on going with flash over static pages.
Should have saved the money and marked down their jeans.

Also, there is a buzz. The fashion world goes to the Barney's site, and I've seen the new site advertised.
In regards to the functionailty, yes, it works just fine. So why all the weak attempts at movement, etc? Why not develop a nice, clean, static site?
The other bummer here is that they obviously were working a theme - with the cheerleader, the type across the screen, etc. It is so poorly excecuted and really doesn't communicate the Barney's brand at all. Hell, the logo on their clothes is orange, there bags are black and silver. It's just so poorly directed.
The photography is great. To bad it sits in a house made of sticks.

The last site was bullshit as well. Cool for techy nerds but wasnt really cool for the market it was reaching. You have to figure that youre reaching a load of people on a 56 and more than likely untech savvy users. The new one is worse. Cant anyone understand that the experience and shop need to seperated? And also all you really want to to fucking buy something. I dont give a shit if Barneys imagery can fly across the screen. I just want to see every god damn watch they have on one big page. Retaining the above the scroll rule is as dead as thinking that people will watch movies or animated shorts at their computer. Wise up!
