ok, i'm finalizing my purchase and need to figure out which Apple display to go with. beside their actual size, would the 23" be a better display? can you really tell that the 23" is HD?
just not sure about putting down almost 2G's for a display.
i know, i know, tough decision. if it wasn't for the education loan deal right now, i wouldn't do it, plus the fact my 15" iMac won't be the most easiest thing to use for my upcoming print projects.
thanks in advance for opinions and advice.

I looked at the 20" Apple display, then got a 20" LaCie Vision20 LCD instead... (about the same price).
1600x1200, comes with clamp thingy and desktop stand, so better adjustability than Apple, and thinner bezel if you want to run a couple of em side by side, and a 3 year on site warranty...

..and has DVI and ADC in, and comes with a VGA adapter too..
so you could run two off a PowerMac with a single Radeon 9000 card... one off ADC, one off DVI port

Look at some of the new Viewsonics, too.
Look around, as far as I know the latest LCDs are getting much better than the older ones (like Apples).

those are tempting. i just started working at an Apple Store so it would be financially ideal to get an apple display.

...and the Formacs are ugly and derivative of Apple's design themes in all the worst ways. Anyone who values good design should boycott them.

my mate has 2 23' and he is very proud of them.. but i think the colors on those screens are saturated and overall i don't see where or how it 's better quality.. i think they are lovely screen, but not useable for design.. the fonts the colors, everything looks weird..
.. nice for divx and dvd's but i prefer my standard iiyama..

I am working on a laptop for the first time, and it does all look different. All the grays look slightly bluish. I'd never only work on an LCD.
But it could be that I haven't figured out how to change the settings on this thing!

i'd keep with the imac

check out this thread over at arstechnica... it'll give a little insight to the whole lcd "brand" craze and shed some light on apples flat panels (older ones, basically meaning up until january of this year).

oops.
suppose i should give the link.

thanks for the link jpea, although it would take years to read the whole thing. interesting points.
i think i'm going to go with the 20". little cheaper and i think it has a better picture, i'm not going to be producing vid's so i don't think i need the HD of the 23". plus i can use some of the money to get some phatty boom batty speakers.
thanks guys.
