another G5 topic. sorry. but i am at Microcenter on the new G5 and I am sold. Gonna shell out 2500 big ones for this quiet ass machine. DAMNIT!!! this thing is quiet as hell!! Phat!!!

ah, home now. euphoric craze has died down. nice machine though.
damn, 1100? sheesh. thats crazy. ok, i must stay, it wasn't blistering fast like i thought it would be. the guy demo'd the 1.6ghz to me and damn, took hella long to load photoshop and ie. i was like, "um, i thought this was fast?" anyway, i changed my mind on ordering. yeah, it is quiet as hell, but damn, i need some speed. my amd powered 1.8ghz 512ddr pc is pretty quick.
oh the possibilities. one day ill be a mac owner.

if memory serves me correct, the price of that machine is equal to the mid to low end g5. and benfal, i agree, for the price of the top of the line G5 you could have a dope ass pc that would walk circles on it.
but you can't deny the packaging. fucking nice! then again, lian makes some dope ass cases too. ah, and that 23" display. *drool* *smack* i'm trippin. performance before beauty. maybe when i retire, i'll get some slick ass joint. but for now...

to compare that PC to the high end PowerMac you also need to add bundled software, a DVDr, Bluetooth, and a wireless card.
and knock about $500 off the G5 because you'll get at least that for it in 2-3 years and your PC will be worthless.

I have ordered the Dual 2Ghz G5 with 4Gig Memory, the ATI high end graphics card and all the best stuff but I have done so to compliment my 2.5Ghz - 1Gig DDR, 128 Geforce 4 PC.
So now I will have the Dual 2Ghz OSX G5 and a Windows XP Pro - Dual boot Red Hat PC of fairly high spec.
They are both good in their own right, so having both is the best solution.

it makes me laugh, only on mac threads will you get a bunch of whingers batting in "I'll never get a mac" "my pc is faster" "impress the girlies" and all the old clichés.
If the thread was about someone buying a new PC you wouldn't have loads of mac heads getting heated like that, and if someone said they had just bought digital camera X you wouldn't get people slagging their new purchase off because they should have bought camera Y.
In conclusion haters, control yourselves next time you see a mac thread, take deep breaths and count to ten, ask yourself, 'am I contributing anything useful to this thread' or just bitching about the same old stuff you'll read in any trolls mac vs pc thread.

paul, you'll notice the performance difference between the two. the G5 is nice, but not as fast I would have thought. then again, it didn't have any extras. it was just a base machine. still, i go back to my 2.7 year old pc: amd xp1800 (close to 1.8gz) 512ddr and two 40gb drives (one is completely fuil the other has 8gb left on it) and my machine still opened photoshop faster than the G5 i saw. performs better and faster than most of the G4's i've had the pleasure of using as well. did i mention total price was 1200? w/ 17" monitor? monitor sucked though. :) lets not forget expansion. i don't have to buy a whole new pc just to get more mhz...simply buy a new processor that the motherboard can support. mine currently can support up to a 2.0ghz processor.
im not going to knock anyone for using their "weapon" of choice when designer, developing, or surfing the web. i would, however, like to hear more of an argument for performance rather than beauty in regards to reasons for purchasing/swithing to apple computers.
i must reiterate how quiet the G5 is! that simply blew my mind. and the case is amazing. nice nice nice. 23" display too. too sweet.
pc til i can find good reason to buy into apple. although G5 may become a member in my family soon. thats a big "maybe" though... "P

but the thread did happen to make you1. read and 2. reply. so must not be that boring.
my point wasn't to turn this into a pc/mac bash. more for those that have not had a chance to see the G5 up close and personal to hear from and eye witness that: 1. it is a brilliantly designed machine 2. it IS as quiet as they say 3. its not as fast as i thought (initial impression...mainly cause the 2k version only comes with 256mb ram!. pfft!!)
so, yeah, its hot. looks so nice. but close to 5g's if i get it with 23" apple display. thats a new car! well, used car. but still, you get my point.
