iPod car direct-ins?

I'm looking to hookup my iPod directly to my car stereo. I know i've seen threads related to this earlier, but I couldn't pull them up on a search.
Basically looking for direct-in options for my iPod to my stereo. But I don't want to use FM TRANSMITTERS such as the iTrip or anything of the like. I have friends who have them, and I think their performance is less than impressive.
I've been told to look into finding adaptors to add an auxillary channel to my stereo, or to look into FM MODULATORS.
Anybody have any luck with these? Any links for a good starting point to look into/buying these?
Cheers!

I know they sell decks now with aux in's. That might be your only solution.
If anyone knows a better solution than buying a new deck or using the tape adapter i would like to know as well.
Im using the iTrip and im happy with it most of the time but you cant beat a direct line in.

this is a guess but you probably can hook into a deck with a cd changer controller.

No, i've researched and actually tried hooking it through the cd changer controller. no go. for me anyway.
not looking for a tape adaptor either.
anybody else with direct-in leads? need to ROCK OUT WITH MY POD OUT soon!

see if your car stereo has an auxiliary adaptor made by these guys:
http://www.blitzsafe.com/blitz_c…
if it does, look on their website for a list of local dealers, or call here;
these things plug into the back of your existing car stereo and output to rca jacks you can plug your ipod into with an adaptor

that looks to me like a CD changer data cable connector. i dont think that will work for an iPod.
Thats what it looked like for my 2000 dodge. Might convert to RCA for other types of cars.

I have an Auxilliary In on my stereo. Full size standard RCA plugs.
I plugged in a Y cable - RCA to miniplug and then drilled a small hole below my stereo in the little slot/holder thing that happened to be there and fed the cable through it.
I just set my iPod on the seat next to me or in my lap and go.
Works great.
There are tons of cheap CD decks with auxilliary RCA input. You just have to swing feeding the cable through something.
Now I just need new speakers . . .

I am planing to get this soon...my stereo got stolen recently.

it has a built in aux-in jack on the front panel of the unit. (Lower right hand corner) I know there are a few other head units that have this option now...just look around.

cinder - my head unit has rca inputs for both front and back speakers. i hooked ipod up to the front and it only plays through the front. the radio or cd plays in the background simultaneously with the ipod. i have to turn that volume all the way down and crank the ipod's vol. confused? i am.

My dad knew a guy in the 70s that had a record player in his car.

I am in a simular situation. When I plug my ipod in the radio still in on and the sound is either left or right. Supposedly Rack Shack sells this little box that fools you player into thinking its a cd changer connection but everytime I ask about it- know one knows what I am talking about.
