Does anyone else feel like an absolute underachieving loser after viewing most of the websites posted by other people.
I'm naturally a cynical person, but I cant come to terms with some of the genius that exists in the design world.
How have some designers overcome this feeling of mediocrity and made a career out of this?
There must be other people in this situation!

The ad-agency I work at now does, at tops, fairly avarage work. The work would never win any recognition or awards, ever.
However, the staff are really proud of what they are doing, and that's just it:- They have no idea what's out there in terms of quality, but more importantly: nor does their clients know. And that's how they get along with their business.
Pretty sad actually. But it does bring in a wad of cash.
And ignorance is, in fact, quite a bliss.

don't click those links ever again. you'll feel better. ;-p

First of all, there is a difference between making money and doing great design.
You shouldn't let great work get you down, it should inspire you to do something better. Study those links and think about what you love about them and how you can adapt that greatness in your work - without copying, of course.

the average of a good and captive website in relation to the sites in the whole internet is about 0,0000001%
so wonder why...
I just don't know why people call themselves as webmasters when there's no such thing as a webmaster.

You can either be someone that rises to occasions and strives for better than what you can do or someone that gets depressed and sits in a cosey-easy-go-nowhere hole.
Make your choice - that's life. To good get better the rest sit and watch ;)

I was speaking more about the newstoday broadcast as opposed to the public one.
I do love the work other people do, and I find great inspiration in it.
I'm just at a frustrating point, as I want to rise to the occasion and do highly respectable work.
I think I'm unsure where my place is in the creative industry. How do you guys get the inspiration and confidence to aspire to new levels?
Thanks for the help.

as a non-designer...by profession (but a participant to some extent)....i don't see how anything posted as a website can throw somebody into a depression....it's all easy, have fun with it....but never spend too much energy on anyone elses crap.

I quit design after I saw this....

A proffesional is someone who does what they love to do even when they don't feel like it.

There will always be people who are better, more talented, with more organic ease than you; and there will always be people who are not as talented and good as you.
Striving to do the best work you can possibly do is rewarding when you aren't distracted by what everyone else is doing. If you allow yourself to respond from your ego, you'll fail everytime. I think ego perpetuates mediocrity probably more than anything.

Use it as inspiration like CyBrainX said. I love seeing better stuff out there.
That means that there's room for improvement, besides that it voids out the ever-so intimidating "Creative Block".
