...it bored the shit out of me the first time.
but it's me...

i love it, and have never played magic the gathering (?).
though am a geek I guess... * _ *
pr2- i just believe gangs of ny had a very poor narrative (in both plot and structure), had a sloppy edit and seem to drag as soon as dd.lewis's character wasnt on screen. I did like it though, just kinda dissapointing.
- quamb0
it did look amazing though- but it better look good with such a budget!
as for 'artistic' types having to like certain movies- thats balony. its personal taste, not if you're a designer or what not...

DD is dope. I can relate to this kid cause I went crazy and saw weird stuff too. Here's my theory--aliens, Frank, ghosts, etc. are entirely real, but other dimensional. Like we cant see a 2d creature unless we were facing it head on, we can't see a 4d creature unless you're frying or a little insane.

what should i say to be still artistic and maintain hipness?
like or dislike?
:O

My theory of the movie even though I don't really enjoy it is,
at the end when everyone is crying it was showing that everyone was unsatisfied with themselves and had this deep secret that they didn't want people to know, and hated that they were like that.
what you see isn't always how it is.
but thats just my opinion

nice Iconolove!
basically, i liked this movie because the first time i watched it i knew it was brilliant, but i didnt exactly know why.
and every time i watch it after, i think something different..
i like movies that give me the shivers... and this movie certainly does..
*two thumbs up*
am i still hip? janne

I don't believe the main premise of this film is to explain the reasoning behind the cross-over between the tangent universes.
It's my opinion that the film addresses the age old question, is there more to life than the banal reality we've been taught to accept.
The film manages to pose this question in a highly artistic and creative way. To question the events & actions of the characters, is parallel to questioning our position in this world and the relationships we have.
The film is rich with these sub-plots and metaphors. Art is about interpretation of life, and I think Donnie Darko has been highly underrated.

Best retelling of the Christ story? Bah. It may have been a creative interpretation, but where was the pathos? "Cool Hand Luke" is miles better in this respect.

Donnie Darko was awesome.
i loved the way it was filmed, the dude who played Donnie was perfect, I have different ideas about this movie everytime I watched it.
But I LOVE when Donnie says...
"Why are you wearing that stoopid bunny suit"
and the bunny goes...
"Why are you wearing that stupid man suit"
.....nice.

i thought the film was nice and entertaining, but not great...

This movie doesn't have a lot on it's mind. It's a poor debut for another on of these writer/directors.

"It's a poor debut for another on of these writer/directors." mimio
meanwhile, newstoday still pops up with countless threads about it, its a huge success worldwide (in terms of an independent film) and has heaps of people in love with it.
this 'poor' writer/director is now hot property.
like to see you debut with something like donnie darko..
pffft. ya git.
- Mimio0
People talk about all night about Gigli too. It doesn't make it good.
- quamb0
they talk about how bad it is. it could destroy peoples careers its so bad.
donnie darko on the other hand has done the complete opposite. won numerous festival awards and led the director to be able to shoot another script of his with a far better budget and big studio backing. whilst the actor who played donnie was at one stage going to replace tobey mguire in spiderman 2 as he had a broke knee or something.
just because you dont liek something, doesnt mean its a failure.

10,000 bonged-out teenagers quoting it's dialogue doesn't mean it's a success either.
The performances in this movie are also painfully boring save (maybe) Jake Gyllenhaal, who's "talent" is his own, but his connections in Hollywood are his fathers.
