Oh boy I am SO CLOSE to jsut jacking this fucking job in RIGHT NOW.
I am working on a website for a joint HP/Microsoft/Vodafone venture/service, and we just had a conference call with them all - where they proceeded to choose the design I spent 15 mins on this morning, has no structure, form, or concept behind it...ARGH BASTARDS...no fucking clue...
i wish I could show them to you but I would probably get shot if I did...still..right now that wouldn't be such a bad thing..
I'm getting too old for this shit.

Ain't it funny though?

"I spent 15 mins on this morning, has no structure, form, or concept behind it"
Why do you show it?
The trash can is your best friend, don't ignore it.
- unknown0
You are responsible for the decline in OUR visual culture.
ITS ON YOUR HEAD!!
ITS ALL YOUR FAULT!!
- quik0
I had the same problem not so long ago.
I did one design, which I spent at least 8 hours on, tweaking it etc, making it real nice.
then ten minutes on another one... guess which one they chose?
- Mimio0
Visual culture pssshh.. even in the most sophisticated of markets the common denominator is agglomeration and sex with a little elitism thrown in.
- jevad0
why do I show it? To 'direct' them to the concept we think is the strongest. I always do it that way and it normally works - one really strong one, an inbetweener, and then one that is usually so way out there that there's no way they would choose it - except in this case.

Understand why your clients make their choices.
- Blofeldt0
let's 'ave a look then
- jevad0
"common denominator is agglomeration and sex "
too damn right
- Blofeldt0
I like your choice, but i'm not surprised they chose the other. It's not as adventurous, it looks like stuff they'd have seen before.
- Epictive0
Clients always pick what you like the least.
- jevad0
yeah - I guess you would have to see the other media for it to really tie in - there's a huge ad campaign and brochure that tie in to the first website design
- exador10
murphy's law...
the client ALWAYS will gravitate to the design you're the least happy with.
not sure why.one of the reasons my old art director used to have each of us come up with 3 designs..
then he'd go through it all and choose the 'best' of them...that way all three concepts shown to the client would be strong..and we wouldn't get stuck producing garbage.
all of us at one time or another do the '1 strong concept, one inbetweener and one way out there'...
some days you get lucky...
then some days you end up like out poor jevad and have to hold yourself back from screaming
'are you fucking serious?...can't you see that was the throwaway?
- jevad0
lol tyson!
most of the time I even make the throwaways sweet - but I had about 4 hours to do all 3.
oh well. Chalk this one down to experience and move on - NEXT!
- Blofeldt0
I'm a CD, and that's how we do it here. It's more of a group decision but we usually design 2 or 3, then have an internal meeting, and decide to concentrate on one to work up to show to the client. It seems to work quite well. Haven't had any backwards and forwards-ing for a few years now.
- jevad0
that's a much, much better way to do it imho....
- Blofeldt0
That method was born out of pure frustration.
can i see the other work? Are you in control of the whole campaign? Looks quite nice.
btw, what does "imoh" mean?
- jevad0
{In My Humble Opinion}
; )
I'll stick up some of the other stuff if you want....I'm in control of all the online stuff
- Blofeldt0
cool. I'm a bit of a corporate whore myself.
