Ordinarily I'd be happy to host a couple of meg for someone, provided they asked nicely and everything. I've done it, in the past, when people have needed to show photos to the rest of NT and so on.
But video hosting is the most taxing, most expensive type of hosting to supply. Because it's a bandwidth-muncher.

I'm not sure about their sponsored hosting. I think they may do it for high-profile sites (like re_invigorate) to push their names out to designers and developers.
At the end of the day you're asking for a large, expensive service and you're only going to get it for free if the suppplier is going to get something in exchange for hosting you. Whether that's kudos or cash is pretty much irrelevant.

Why not just start small? and build up over time... you can't expect to turn up with 200mb of stuff, and expect people to just take you in.
Or even ask your old college if you can keep your media files there... and link to them from your small site...
