A handy hint, although never been brave enoguh to try it... In the beginning of your presentation/faslh file whatever it is... get it to look up a variable on your website... e.g A text file called client.txt and in it have clientA=1, so different projects check that the client has the all clear... So when they don't pay... set it to the amount of money they owe you... i.e ZERO!
They'll soon be back and paying!

...Or better still joke with clients during the job about having done it to someone else... just so they don't even comtemplate messing with you.

Probably not particularly legal... but then people on here do say that you should use the medium more : )

beautiful. that's what some online porno companies started doing. heheh. not that i would know...
but they have that in their files, so if you dont pay, then it knows and you cant watch the sweet sweet pornoliscious goodness.
i wouldnt know how to do something like that, but i think that it is a damned good idea.
so basically what you give them is a trial version. but then what happens when your server goes down and the client is embarassed out of accident and then you get your ass sued for damages. . .
something to consider anyway, but then maybe there is a way to reset the work so that it no longer looks for the file?

Yes that is a great idea. Is there a way of making the file self destruct if clients don't pay? I like to learn that. Or blow up there server?

YEA YEA!
or like... send electric shocks thru their monitors that would be powerful enough to cripple them or maybe just sterilize them.mwaaaahahahahahahahahah.

ok. apparently i went too far.
sorry to mess up your thread piper.

I remember watching Single White Female and the main character was developing this program for her client. But they never paid her. She put this timer in the program and self destructed when the pay date expired. It wiped out all the clients info in his computer. That is brilliant.
God I wish I was smart enough to do that. But if I were, I wouldn't be doing $300 jobs.

Or idf you've got it all in writing just sell the debt on... you won't get as much money obviously... but at least you won't spend any more time trying to get it... best to use some nutter crack heads

could of just put a date clause in it... so when you are paid you just say... 'I've optimised the site a bit more for you, and give them a (clean) version.... otherwise leave them with the ticking time bomb.

been using this method for quite a while. PHP/actionscript little gold key....

hot.

...and with the time clause... say it is set to a month after your payment date... what are they gonna do? You just tell them they should have paid within 28 days, and it's how you protect yourself.

To be safe, just program flash to find a tx file on your server. If it DOESNT find, it goes tru, But, if they dont pay, put the file in, it finds the file, redirect to gayfarm.com.
makes sense?

Do that and you'll NEVER get paid.
Better advice is to make an appointment with your contact there inform him/her of the problem with billing and have them supervise the invoice submission to accounting. Make someone outside of accounting accountable.

another good way... particularly if you're dealing with an agency who is selling your work on... Is to bump the price up by 10 percent or whatever, but tell them that you'll knock 10 percent off the price if they pay up front.

I think it's gone a bit past that.

just hang around their offices and when they close up just camp out undera desk, it will be fun as well as being able to smash up their equipment at night! w00t
