All kinds of ex-Ann Arbor folk here. I just moved into Phx from Ann Arbor myself (this month).

    It sucked. Big-time.

We used ABF, one of those shippers where you pack and they drive. That part was OK; our stuff arrived in decent shape (surprisingly). Much better than driving some rental truck yourself, I think. Total cost for the truck was $1900. It worked out to be about a hundred bucks more than renting a Ryder or Uhaul, after we figured in gas, hotel, etc. I drove my car out here myself in three days.

Just make sure you have a job lined up if you can help it, because whatever money you do have saved up will disappear like a fart in the wind.

But I am missing Ann Arbor--downton Tempe's just not the same (though similar).

    Best of luck!

i'm about to embark on a cross-country trip myself... ottawa to vancouver...

packing up my car and driving alone...thinking its gonna cost around 500-600, but i'm moving into a fully furnished apartment, and am staying in hostels the whole trip!! so keeping it fairly low key...

i keep flipping from excited to nervous..the whole new city new people thing...can't wait for a change, but not looking forward to having no one to share the trip with....

just my thoughts....i'll keep you posted as to whether i liked it or not...
