Donald Byrd, Eddie Henderson, Herbie Hancock, Stanley Turrentine, Bobby Hutcherson, Maceo Parker, Grant Green, I love Jazz. And you? :)
- Blofeldt0
I reckon Maceo is funk, not Jazz. James Brown's not classed as Jazz. Just because someone is an instrumentalist doesn't mean they're a jazz musican.
And sure Rhythm Blues gets classed as jazz. Not modern R&B but 40's & 50's stuff like Big Joe Turner, and I'd say that Brother Jack McDuff, Jimmy Smith and Grant Green all have strong blues and rhythm & blues roots but they're often classed as Jazz musicans too.
Saw Dizzy Gillespie in 1989, but he wasn't wearing a beret.

Who cares why somebody else listens to it?
what is that, trying to look cool?
how do you know they dont like it?
jazz is great, music is great!!!

If anyone out there likes great swing piano led swing trios, there's a guy called Benny Green who's fan-fucking-tastic. Uses Cristian McBride and Carl Allen in his trios. Bloody brilliant.
Anyone got any good modern recordings I should be listening too?

Bill Evans,
oh yeah.
Not very keen on Joey Baron or John Zorn. I mean, i thought John Zorn was a new wave sort of guy. If you like him, you'll probably like Keith Tippet. And Baron's stuff sounds pretty dated, a bit like Sanborn's old stuff. Again if you like that, then some of Lenny White's (bitches brew) on Hip Bop are pretty good, and more funky.
