the other day i got a very distubing email
the most important excerpt from the email was as follows"Thank you for you interest in R/GA unfortunately we no longer do broadcast
design we are solely interactive."WTF!!!
for those who arent familiar with RGA this company was an New York instituion of motion graphics broadcast design
check out there history
http://www.rga.comThe company that gave us the visuals of Superman, Alien, Preditor, Ghostbusters, Seven, and Kyle Cooper for god sakes now has gone strickly interactive? does anyone else think theres something wrong here

this has been the case for a while, that's where imaginary forces came from
- capitalJ0
they were hiring broadcast people as early as november
- czrock0
that's odd.
all the work in their portfolio and in the timeline since like 01 is all interactive.

I'm interested in Broadcast design. How does one approach that type of work? Do I need any special programs? thanks
- czrock0
sarcasm?
- czrock0
Definitely aftereffects is the best place to start. Also knowing 3D is really important nowadays in broadcast. Combustion is an amazing program for motion graphics, it takes a while to get the hang of but is very powerful.

they have been phasing broadcast out but they did away with it completely pretty recently

wow!!
i just know of a great, great interactive design firm that went broadcast design (at least so I was told).... KIOKEN.
gee, guess we all need a switch every now and then.

I am going there tomorrow for some work.

Seems like a good idea to me, I imagine the days of non-interactive motion graphics are numbered (don't get me wrong, i'm sure they'll be around for a while yet), best to be ahead of the pack as the old medias die off

"best to be ahead of the pack as the old medias die off "
and why do i still refuse to believe that...
hmmm...

what?

maybe because literally billions of people in this world have TVs significantly higher then people that have computers?
oh and also TV is free?or maybe because people go to the movies and find more enjoyment by watching a movie
then they ever would looking at a companies website?

I'm talking long term, interactive media has so much more potential than ye olde one-way television and movie screen. I love movies and TV but be serious, it has a lifespan.
- czrock0
I think they are totally different with totally different end results. I think both serve their purpose and will be with us for a while.

so true capital J.
most "joe average" folks i see visit a website go there because they want to check out their date's response, ebay, the weather, the news, porn and what not..
they are not ringing their 56k modems to play with an interactive ad..
*ouch*
i know.
but think about it!
- corin0
Yes i know about average joe (i love that myhtological little fella, helps me out when i have no facts), and my long-term statement seems to have gone unheard. But seriously, that format is getting over 100 years old now, how much longer is it going to be engaging?. I know we still have painting and photography etc.
- corin0
shit stupid laptop touch pad making decisions for me!
- corin0
Anyway b4 i was rudely interrupted... Basically my idea is this, RGA have done alot of groundbreaking work. To continue doing so maybe they feel they have to free themselves of the shackles of an aging format, with such a centralised broadcasting mechanism, in order break more ground
- ********0
corin!!! easy, easy..
i hadn't read yer last post before i hit the 'broadcast live' hotspot!
;)
