I am experimenting trying to create drop shadows, and bevels in flash. I see sites like http://www.ciudadesmexicanaspatr…
or the famous 2advanced :P and wonder how much it is photoshop and how much vector.
I am able to accomplish similar results on the shadows using the same shape several times with a gradient of the color, and even though the size is smaller than a png, I wonder what if the machine will choked because of so many vectors.
Any suggestions, advise.
Thanks guys.

I'm not so sure, unless you are saying that you know the developed those shadows in Flash themselves which can be down with rounding tools and using the alpha fade effect, etc. However, just meant you can import it in as a shadowed .gif from PS. Good Luck.

Thanks JazX, It is just that I can see they have used vector on some of the sadows; as you said using round shapes and alphas, but I wonder if when you are playing the swf if all those repeated vector shapes will afect a lot the player and choked on the computer. If that is the case, then maybe it is worth to use gifs or pngs with a bigger file size.

I have got some nice results with using alpah faded pngs, but if you just want a nice faded shadow, a quick way is just to put your shadow under the object, with say, and alpha of 25, then, with it selected, go into Modify/Shape/Soften fill edges, and select, say 6 and 6..gives the edges a nice fade :)..

Darn, I never thought about it. Does that increases the size of the movie big time?
Thanks miko :)

hey koko,
I dont think it has much impact at all - all it does is create a series of 'dithered' alpha steps down...
I think thats what they do on the bevelled panels on the UI for http://www.realityslip.com
(screengrab, zoom in), and its a nice effect.
In any case, its probably less than importing pngs.
hth :)
