I just got the 30 gb Ipod, and it seems like its playlist has to match that found on your machine (i.e. if I upload a track to my ipod and then delete it off of my machine, when I pug in the ipod again it will automatically delete it there).. is there anyway around this? does anyone know anyway around this?? i cant devote so much diskspace to mp3s...

To adda nother question to this thread:
What are the drive capabilities of these iPods, can you use them as an external hard drive for any file format?

f_eddyshears, yes you can use them as an external drive for any type of file.

that's what's sweet about those! ;)

but I'm not sure if they're built with the durability of a regular hard drive

oh...
someone said something about formatting the HD and booting up from the iPod, containing OS-X..
can anyone verify on this?

teddy, if your using iTunes set it to manual update. If your on windows I would suggest getting xplay cause the app that comes bundled is utter crap.

Anyone experienced any instability issues with the iPod, when using as external drive for media other than music (storage, etc.)?

I use it as a drive and put files on there almost everyday. I had to put a 2 gigabyte quicktime file on there to send it to a PC for compression when our server at work wouldn't take it. It's very durable. I've had my 20 gigabyte version for about a year now.

Good news. thanks.
Have been thinking of getting one as I am planning on joining a Master program in Europe. As they are supplying computers, I need to take my files and programs with me, without a computer.

I wouldnt rely on the ipod as you main and only soarce for storing your music. Mine has had to be reformated twice already due to errors. You should always have a backup of your collection.
theres a good ipod forum here
