I am thinking about getting rid of my G4 and think that I may be able to do everything I need to on a well equipped 15" powerbook. Am I fooling myself? It's not like I need to render full videos. Just web and print design.
What do you think?

go for it. a laptop serves all your needs. and you can connect your old monitor to it, so you have 2 screens : )

I am just concerned about speed and memory but there is no real performance difference these days right?

if you want to wait for the G5 pbooks... i played around on the 867 one and it was fun. just put loads of ram into it.

The G5's can take a long time and will most likely be too expensive. yeah?

i heard some rumours that ther will be a new PB soon:

and that'll will take time to develop a G5 for laptops

nuthin makes me more upset but to buy some top of the line computer and the fucking thing looks like a dinasaur 3 days later. Not in this case. Right?

i been to that now. i bought a dual 867 a year ago and could now buy a machine twice as fast for the same money. what should i say, they're old when you buy them.... laptops have some cool benefits. you must find out for yourselfs, the superior mac today is the classic of tomorrow.
btw. i had my 8600 for 5 years and still worked on it.

I've been using a PB as my main machine for a little over a year. Its a bit limiting when I work with Flash (screen real estate) but I've gotten used to it. In fact I have to give up the machine shortly (employer owned) and am dreading it b/c i can only afford an Imac.

Thanks. I think I will do it.

I have the 17" version and I'm doing plenty of Flash, After Effects and plan on doing some 3D now. There isn't any problem and I haven't crashed once in the month and a half that I've owned it.

once the box comes in your hands, a stoopid smile will be on your face and you won't ever miss it : ))

"stoopid smile"
LMAO!

I strongly suggest the PB. Being able to take my work to the coffee shop or grandma's house does a design addiction good.

YES! I can't wait!
