Have a friend visiting this weekend and wanted to point her in the direction of good restaurants - places to go etc...I've been there countless times but would love to hear from people living there or who have been there themselves what they think! : )

Let me be the first to suggest Tortilla Flats. West 12th and Washington Street
http://www.tortillaflatsnyc.com/…
Excellent food, reasonably priced, the waitresses bring tequila shots and people are always in the right mood.

Not a native, but am a big fan of the Blue Ribbon. Best part is, they're open until like 4 a.m.

Kats Deli in LES. If God himself made you a pastrami sandwitch it would taste close to what you could get there.

shit I cannot remember, but in Little (I mean little Brasil) in Mid-Town like between 5th and 6th at like 56th Street there is this Brasiliano/Portugues place called like Macarena Something, they have $4.99 Broiled Chicken, etc at the bar. Nice! :)

De La Soul is playing with Blackalicious for free in central park on saturday.
Scoop up a Time out New York (magazine) for good restaurants, there are so many.

down the street from that Madiba place in Ft.Greene is this good carribbean place that has good veggie options.
if you go to grimaldi's, you have to walk over the bridge.
that place, grilled cheese, in LES is also good. they only serve, you guessed it, grilled cheese.
kate's joint in the east village for veggie diner stuff. go to Mama's a block away for good cheap homestyle food
