Is 450 k too big for a flash website? Its just one initial load and then all the content is there.
Its a folio for a design studio.
should i break it up into seperate swfs?
thanks

Break that shit up. 450 is WAY too much for an initial download.

ya, i thought so. thanks

Yeah too big, my new site is coming in a 150k and I was even trying to cut that down (mind you I'm quite anal that way).

It really depends on how you have it stream in. You don't have to make different movies to have more than one preload. You can have them read while the next section is loading. If you do that two or three times, it should be fine.

sounds good, altho the producer said not to waste time and 400k is fine. :(]
i have it down to 290k now.

what about if you have a html option and a 300k flash version to choose from. Im trying to justify my actions

na... learn how to lead swfs into each other...
- sexypixel0
what do you mean by leading into each other?
- Jnr_Madison0
I think he means loading levels, movieclips etc which I'm sure you already know how to do :)

ah ok, thanks guys.
my first flash movie in a year. Its all coming back to me now.
loading into a targeted movie clip.. oh the fun :)

I acctually mean loading swfs into Movie Clips so that you can control the SWFs by targeting the movie clips...
- Jnr_Madison0
Yeah, that's what I said.
- unknown0
sorry... just saw levels...
- Jnr_Madison0
:)

separate it to different swf's for two reasons: the user will only download what he wants to see and you'll have a smaller main movie.
- sexypixel0
so loading into movie clips as apposed to levels is better for caching?

Yuppers, knock that pup downward.
