Ok so I am thinking I need to move (out of Boston). You may have seen me post asking about particular cities earlier.
Whats the best design city you've been to (job wise AND culture wise) ?

theres always a lot of things going on in LA. many of the heavy hitters as far as design firms in the US are located here. I'd say as far as art and jobs it's probably very similar to NY.. however the culture is completely different. LA versus NYC.. its all personal preference. Nobody usually loves both, from my experience.

Nueva York hands down!
distant second place is fought between SF, LA and Chicago. SF is great, but a little on the small side.

Harrisburg! LOL. Good thing you limited this to the USA, because London or Toronto would probably beat us hands down...

Chicago - easily. That's why we all move to other places....

Well, I'm biased, but let me give some examples of life in NYC. I live around the block from Parsons, that has two galleries on the corner of 13th and 5th, about 8 blocks from AIGA, walking distance from countless galleries. You can join organization like the Art Directors club, Type Directors Club and go to networking events like Media Bistro. There's New School, SVA, NYU and FIT for students.

In terms of community - check out the various AIGA sites... But don't stop there. In Dallas - the AIGA isn't very strong, but they have DSVC.
I would NOT say NYC, LA, or SF... unless you love a lack of work, poverty, competition, politics, unemployement, and making coffee for pompus art directors.

Ok, as far a design goes there some really great design firms / studios / labs / interactives, here in the bossom of Bostom. You have to keep your chin up here in Boston because the community for designers sucks. There just isn't the type of social interplay you'll get out in New York, Chicago, LA.
Don't get down on it though because it's partly your fault by not trying to do anything about it.
You have to really search to find the good jobs but they're here. Youjust have to be the lucky bastard at the right place at the right time. You have to make youself noticable and get active.
I know of about at least 150 really reputable design oriented places.
Email me if you need direction.
As always,
