I hate it when people say something like that and then finish with "but I have homosexual friends" as if that redeems their hypocritical bullshit.

God, Schmod.
Make way for the Ginger Moral Imperative!

Not sure I understand your logic, Rasko. How is that hypocritical?
- unfittoprint0
"but I have homosexual friends"
reminds of racists saying that "I have black friends. Those are allright".

Seems to me that I can love and be friendly with a homosexual without condoning their lifestyle, just as I can with someone of a different political viewpoint.
Isn't that what tolerance is all about?

I'm not replying to anything in this thread anymore - it's making me too angry
- vespa0
That is a fair point frow. But I still find the idea of homosexuality being a sin because priests of 2000 years ago said so.
All "interpretation" of spiritual texts reflects the political climate of the time.

the hypocrisy is in how you think.
How you can 'love and be friendly' with someone while all you are doing is tolerating them.
I wouldn't really want to know you if you were had to tolerate me to love me.
- frow0
Well, I don't believe that homosexuality is a sin because of what "priests of 2000 years ago" said. I believe it because the Bible says it is.
- vespa0
okay sorry not priests, apostles.
But hasn't it been priests who have since translated and interpreted the text into the bible that exists today? Don't you think they would have been under huge pressure to adopt the church's political line, especially as the church has been historically so rich and powerful?
- frow0
That is not what I said.
Jesus' disciples were sinners of all kinds. Yet he loved them and spent day after day with them. And in a loving and merciful way, he admonished them to abandon their sinful ways and embrace the love and freedom found in himself. Look, I sin... I still need love and friendship. I love my friends that struggle with gossip, or whatever, etc..

if you can't accept other people's opinions/ lifestyles/ beliefs/ sexuality/ favourite colour then try and tolerate it....
even if you disagree.....
I don't personally agree with frow's belief about homosexuality being a sin
BUT
I respect him for having the conviction for stating it, knowing as he must the nature of reactions to it.
I don't think saying "I have homosexual friends" is the same as saying "BUT I have homosexual friends" subtle textual difference maybe but a great difference in meaning.....
my tuppence worth
have a nice day ALL of you

I once ask a cristian,
-"if I did good my whole life and I dedicated my life to help others, but I am not a christian. If there was a heaven, would I be allowed in?"
He said no.
-"if I was a child molester / killer all my life but before I died, I convert to Christianity, would I go to heaven?"
He said yes.

Vespa, the Bible we know today is, I believe, extremely reliable. I believe God has preserved the texts. A study on this subject will show that the manuscripts that our modern translations are based on are remarkably accurate. More accurate, in fact, than the historical documentation that supports that George Washington was the U.S.'s first president. Don't take my word for it, research it yourself. I did. It's important enough, don't you think?
Much of what we have seen as "the church" throughout the centuries is, in my opinion, apostasy. The true church is made up of Christ followers that worship God "in spirit and in truth".

fuck you people get hung up on detail....
all the bible is a rough moral code to live by, however you construe it to your own ends, essentially if everyone lived by the ten commandments the world would be a much much better place. Especially "do unto others as you would done unto you."

A) I wanna express my love for my fellow NT'ers for being genuinly sincere with this topic.
B) That website is not representative of True Christianity. God is love.
C) The Bible does teach that homosexuality is a sin. But so is any sex outside of marriage. And there are many other sins. But ALL SIN keeps us separated from a perfect and loving God. From birth we all have a sin nature and are completely unable to have a relationship with God. But God loved the World so much (even us NT'ers) that he sent His Son to be the perfect payment for any & all sin in our lives.
D) All you have to do is accept Christ as your Lord & Savior to be forgiven of any & all sin in your life and to then begin a True relationship with God.
E) .. coming soon
F) .. coming soon

too many christians in this thread.
believe, believe.....
ha ha ha ha!!!!!...

I'm a big fan of tolerence so carry on tolerating, frow, and may you receive tolerance back.
The crimes done in the church's name may not reflect the church today but to me the history is all too recent. Tolerence certainly wasn't the word used in Australian history.

It's a shame, vespa. I feel your pain. It's a tragedy that so many have waged war and destruction in the name of Christianity. I know it grieves the Holy Spirit.
