robert - a client is paying you for a service - youre not just some hack doing what they tell you to - are you? its not the same thing as going to mcdonalds unless you make mcdesigns... its about problem solving, concepting, targeting...

You guys are missing my point.
1st off Design is different than programming.
As we were all taught in art school (drawing 01) you may not like the crits you get but they will make you stronger.
MOST (not all) client have a vision in their heads. Your job is to take their vision and make it a reality. In the end you are selling a product (comps) as a desinger, and a service (flash or html) as a prgrammer.
So when a CEO says I want it this way. Give it to him that way or find clients that share your experimental vision.
Another way to approach it is to show him what he wants to see but then do a comp that you like and show them that so they get both ends of the spectrum.
No as for me being a suit... well yes I am... now I am a Sr. Producer working on multimillion dollar deals so my opinion probably doesn't mean that much to you guys. But you will all have to work with people like me so try to get along!

Guys this is a joke... You guys are taking this way too seriously... yes its funny, and yes at the end client are the boss, we can help them with our solutions... but at the end they are the one choose what they want and we say no problem, we can do that. :)

Patience and educate them with the value of art & design. Inpsire them with demo reels and video clips in order to make them see and know the design, is what I normally do when presenting or proposing a design prototype to a client. Show some samples of website that they think it's nice. Then, by that, we get to know what type of client we got, and later, we can proceed with some design to entertain and make them happy. It's how I make sure my wallet is full... :D

You made good funny! Yay!
Seriously though, it's a designer's right to make fun of the client behind their back. So, let's just leave it at that. There isn't any deeper argument necessary here.
