but i really have not done alot of print work. i am wondering when something is 1 color... is it ONLY 1 color, or 1 color PLUS black.
also, in illustrator if i want to do something with only say dark blue but i want to use different percents of it would it be safe to just use the transparancy slider and then when it is printed it would only use 1 color? much thanks.

1 color + black = two color
If you are going to print something as only one color then pick a Pantone (PMS) color and then use the color slider to screen it back...printing transparency in Illustrator can cause all sorts of problems and isn't a screened back color anyhoo.

one color = one color. (no added black)
illy:
better not use transparency.
pick the (PMS) color you need, and just adjust the shade of it (0-100%), so with dark blue it would be 100% dark blue, 60% is blue, 30% light blue, 0% white (no color/ papercolor),,hope that helps... if I am being vague it is due to the fact I had 6 wines and 4 beers.

one color = any color printed on paper
but being creative you can spec different colored paper and come up with sweet results
