Hi all...
I don't know if any of you have tried out the OpenSource CMS Typo3, but if not, i suggest you take a peak. The things this tool can do are amazing, and it is really nice to be able to let clients update their site with absolutely no knowledge in html.
Typo3 has been compared in variuos magazines against commercial systems ranging from 10.000 - 20.000$ and in some cases outperformed, especially on it's graphics handling.
BUT! Eventhough typo3 has a high class modular framework, extendability and flexability, i think imho that the UI could use some shining up. Maybe some of the talent of Newstoday would help?? Maybe launch a "creative team" to take care of all the shiny nifty things the programmers don't care that much about, but are as imortant in a succesfull tool as the code behind it.
A little work in this, and we all would have ourselves a system worth compaing to Vignette...More info at:

I totally agree. Typo3 is the shit! (And I don't mean that in a negative way)

hey, is it possible to install Typo with shared hosting. I mean if you don't full access to the web server?
I've been looking through their docs, but it says that the app needs to be installed on the web server.

corin > you don't have to do anything other than learn and use the program as it is OpenSource. I simply suggested that if you wan't to help make it even better, maybe we could start a creative taskforce and shine it up a bit.

I've installed it on a shared server. Worked fine.

Yah i agree, its just the shine time that I hav none of. Have you guys looked into moveable type as well? is it any better worser?

Well, it's a normal php mySql app, so it is possible to run it on shared hosting.
It has it's own install tool, so all you need to know is the name of your mySql database.
But it has some special features like graphics handling, pdf writing etc. which requires some special components to be installed on the server, like the GDlibrary, ImageMagick etc. but no problem to run without.

As far as i know MT is a blogger.
Typo3 is a full blown Content Management System.
