Anyone care to recommend any video editing software for the pc. I want something that is easy to get into but has professioanl features too. I know that sounds like what Final Cut Pro would offer, but I am on a PC, wish that I have Mac though.

tried premiere?
some people hate it- though it aint too bad really.

go with premiere, and if you need effects go for after effects... Premiere is user friendly. (or go for avid ???)

If you are used to Photoshop at all, go with After Effects. It's easy to learn and far superior to Premiere, Final Cut. You'll still need something to capture video thought. Get something simple and easy for that.
After Effects is your choice.

you shouldn't really use aftereffects to edit video.
it is a post tool, not an editing suite.

not that I am a video expert, but quamb is right, it's a support tool, which makes Adobe more $$$!

ok, i got my Canon GL2 coming to me right now, hopefully i'll get it soon. So most people here would recommend the most popular editing program for the PC from Adobe. So I guess I'll just fo with that to start things off.

yeah I would use Adobe stuff, yet if you are just starting off Vegas Video really ins't that bad, there are plently of plug-ins for that, effects wise.

seriously...if you are just starting, take the time to learn AVID DV Xpress instead of premiere. DV Xpress is far superior, far more stable, and has 10X the tools premiere has.
Premiere, in my opinion, should be a last-chance piece of software that people use when they can't get their hands on a mac with FCP or a pc with DV Xpress.
Plus, by learning AVID DV Xpress, you are alos starting to learn the real AVID system.
Please do not listen to people who say premiere is great. It is, at best, an alright piece of software.

Pinaccle 8 aint bad just for editing fun stuff, it burns to DVD, with chapter options or you have the options of MPEG or AVI as compressed PC files. And it wont break the bank.....providing you have a firewire input you dont need an extra card. It's dead easy to get used to also....been using it for over a year now and it suffices all I want to do. It edits in real time and renders pretty quick when you "make movie". Lots of transitions, special effects, vary the speed, voice over, music backgrounds from your own cds, etc.

I think you are a bit hard vellan.
Of course premiere is not as good as AVID, but depending on what you are doing, there isn't really a difference. (cut move paste ? what else can you do in FC ?) The real advantage of avid is that it keeps more quality from the DV source, the 4:2:2 thing (not sure)
