I have just design a detailed interface website design in Photoshop. The design is going to be used in Flash.
The interface is done in a metal panel style.
Should I attempt to recreate the panels in flash or should i import the pieces as gifs?
Advice please.

if you want to increase file size, use .gifs.
determine what you can recreate and go from there. if not, use your .gifs.

I'd recreate everything in flash, is much more effective both in playback and file size

Take all your files into fireworks, then just copy and paste into flash, it also preserves your transparancys.

I'll offer my best advice.
If they are a photographic metallic type object... chances are you won't be able to re-create as convincingly in flash
Save them as 24 or 32 bit PNG's out of fireworks...
They seem to work the best.

Best way to pull this off would be:
1. draw a square panel in Flash
2. turn it into a movie clip
3. define a function inside the movie called tileImage() that will take a jpeg file of your metal texture and tile it based on the width and height of the movie, then masks the skin so it only fills the area needed.
4. you can add gradient shadows and highlights needed using vector shapes in Flash.
5. or you can manually add the skin file and mask it, instead of using a function.

Use both
